After a rollercoaster ride in early 2017, I decided to use the rest of the year as a time to really focus on self care and a little pampering before my focus is on keeping a tiny human alive.
I tried a lot of different beauty and skincare items this year and wanted to share a few of my favorites with you.
- Tula Probiotic Skincare
A few bloggers that I follow promote Tula pretty heavily. There was a sale on a kit of miniatures, so I decided this was the time to give it a try. I figured because of the lower price and smaller containers, I would’t be stuck with a giant tub of cleanser that I hated and would never use again.
You guys, this stuff is amazing. The first time I used it, I knew I would be hooked. Everything smells SO good! Almost like a combo of roses, fresh linen and baby powder. So light and not overpowering at all.
The cleanser works wonders. I feel like a new person after I wash my face and actually feel clean and not dried out. I also started to get bumps on my hands from extra dry skin. I tried using the Hydrating Day and Night Cream on it, and it was gone the next day! I had previously tried all sorts of lotions, creams and salves on these bumps and nothing worked. Now when I start to see them pop up again, I just put a little of the lotion on and they’re gone! What is this magic?!
Check out all of their awesome products here. There are many I still want to try, but I’ll get there eventually! This is not an ad, I just really love the stuff that much!
- Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray
The second item I’ll always have with me is Rose Water Spray. I use Mario Badescu and I tend to like it more than a few other sprays that I’ve tried. It’s more of a light rose scent and instantly wakes me up and refreshes me. I used it a lot when I was on a work trip in Florida in June and needed to cut the sticky humidity showing on my face with something!
Some of the other sprays I’ve tried had a more pungent and offensive rose scent and some smelled almost too chemical-y (I know, it’s a word 😉 ) but this one is light, refreshing, and I swear makes my skin look better!
- Aveeno 60 Second In-Shower Facial
I had a bit of an Ulta haul a few months ago when a big sale was going on and as I was looking for some good masks to try, I stumbled across this. I’ve had good luck with all things that I’ve tried from Aveeno so figured I would give it a shot.
This product is fantastic! It smells so good and the scent lingers on your skin long after you get out of the shower. My dog even gives it the thumbs up-she would not stop sniffing my face when I sat down on the bed.
Shockingly, it’s cheaper on Ulta than Amazon (check it out here). This does a great job of really making your face feel clean and totally refreshed, like a mini facial! Now I understand the product name.. 🙂
- Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Color in Looking for Truffle
A blogger I follow has been into matte lipsticks lately and she looks amazing wearing all of them! I figured matte was what I needed to try and would make me feel less like a lady of the evening when I put it on.
I got two different colors in this Wet n Wild line. Since they’re so cheap (seriously-I got mine for $2.44/stick!), I knew it wouldn’t hurt to try a few.
My first choice was Charred Cherry. This color looks great online, but was way too pink for me in person. I was actually shocked about how much lighter it was than the cap showed. I have a more olive skin tone and when I gave it to my friend with a lighter skin tone, it looked great on her.
I was also a little shocked that Looking for Truffle turned out to be my favorite! On the website it definitely looks more on the brown side, but let me tell you…it does NOT look brown in person! I wore it to Thanksgiving this past year and even *gasp* reapplied throughout the day! I’m on the left in the picture below.
I’m making it an intention of mine (I say intention rather than resolution..it tends to stick better with me and honestly I WILL intend to do these things in 2018..it takes some of the pressure off in case it doesn’t work out!) to try to work self care into my routine more and more in hopes that it will stick once our little one comes along. Even if I only have 1 second to spray rosewater on my face, I’ll take it!
